Skincare acids and why we love them

Skincare acids

Acids. The word itself can be intimidating enough for some people to not dare go near them – let alone apply them to their faces. Many first heard of acids in primary school during chemistry class, which is why caution and danger are often some of the first words to pop up in their heads when hearing the term. But there’re actually lots of good reasons why you shouldn’t dodge products that mention acids in their ingredient list.

We gathered some of our favorite acids and the reasons our skincare routines wouldn't be the same without them.

The power of acids

If you love diving headfirst into the skincare-lexicon, the word actives might not be new to you. If the term doesn’t ring a bell, here’s a short explanation to sum it up: Basically, actives target a specific skin concern. Meaning, they have proven effects in treating issues such as dryness, signs of premature aging, eczema, and the list goes on. In other words, actives can change your skin for the better – which is why we hold them dearly in our products.

So, why is this essential knowledge when talking about acids? Because many types of acids serve as actives in skincare products. They work their magic differently, but they’re all a great way to unleash your skin’s true potential. It’s all about choosing the right acid for your skin type and its needs.

Your manual to skincare acids and their benefits

In the following, we compiled a list of acids you can encounter in our products, which will hopefully make it even easier for you to make the right choice for your skin:

HYALURONIC ACID: This skin-replenishing ingredient immediately boosts the skin’s moisture content and elasticity. It’s especially known for its hydrating and soothing properties as well as its ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Despite its name, however, this substance actually isn’t considered an acid due to its low pH level and the fact that it doesn’t hold exfoliating properties. Still, it’s a worshipped ingredient in the skincare world for its numerous benefits – but that’s a whole other talk, you can dive into in our blogpost Why You Need Hyaluronic Acid.

How to incorporate acids into your skincare routines

As with many other things in the skincare universe, you should never just jump into acids full force. It’s important to give your skin a chance to react to the effects, and the process of incorporating acids into your skincare routines should therefore be slow and steady.

Be aware that products containing lots of actives can cause a reaction of temporary redness to the skin. This is completely normal and only shows that the ingredients are working. The most important thing is ultimately to note how your skin responds to your products.

If you’re ever in doubt of how to use your acid-enriched products, you can always turn to our website, where a “how to use” guide is included in every product description. And of course, we’re always ready to answer any questions you might have!
