What is rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that appears as reddened, flushed skin, as well as visible blood vessels and sometimes rashes and pimple-like bumps on the skin. The symptoms can vary from skin to skin, and the condition is characterized by recurring reactions, also called flare-ups. Environmental factors, emotional fluctuations, sun exposure, alcohol, and your diet are all examples of elements that can affect your rosacea and cause a reaction in the skin. The reason for rosacea is still unknown, but it’s widely believed that the condition is caused by a combination of environment and genetics. Now, that’s not to say that rosacea is always the reason behind your skin’s redness. Allergic reactions or your skin getting used to a new product or ingredient can also be common reasons for sudden flushes. What’s essential is to take note of the severity of the reactions and how often they occur.

How do I treat rosacea and redness?

As mentioned, rosacea can’t be cured. However, it’s essential to avoid triggers to prevent worsening your skin’s symptoms. If you suspect that you have rosacea, we’d always advise you to console a dermatologist to receive guidance on your specific skin type and its condition. Besides being mindful of your surroundings, stress levels, and what you’re exposing your skin to, there’re some ingredients that can help minimize flushing and irritations in the skin, which can help keep your complexion soothed to promote an even skin tone.

Go-to ingredients to minimize redness

A collection of calming ingredients is a must for your skincare shelf if you’re dealing with regular redness or irritations. Introduce your skincare routine to some of our favorites: Aloe vera is known for its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties and is therefore an essential ingredient for treating irritated skin. Vitamin E has restorative and preventive properties as it’ll effectively help protect the skin from free radicals while decreasing redness to leave a bright and even complexion. Niacinamide is an acknowledged ingredient for several reasons. With its ability to help reduce inflammation to minimize redness, it’s an especially beneficial ingredient for treating eczema or rosacea. BHA, or salicylic acid, has also shown promising properties in treating redness and rosacea, as this exfoliating ingredient is known for its ability to even out skin tones and textures.
